From Yawn-Inducing Content to a Social Media Strategy that Converts

As a social media manager for short-term rentals, I've seen firsthand how a well-crafted social media strategy can transform a business.

Social media is dynamic, with trends and user behaviors constantly evolving. I realized that to keep up with these changes and help my clients succeed, I needed to take a more proactive approach.

When I started, I offered basic social media management, creating graphics in Canva and using client-provided real-estate-type photography. However, as Instagram trends and content consumption shifted, I realized this approach wasn't enough to achieve the results my clients needed.

The content often lacked the consistency and quality needed to stand out, and it failed to engage and convert into bookings - which was my main goal.

The Shift to Content Creation

Recognizing this need, I pivoted.

Instead of relying on client-provided content, I now offer on-site content creation services including photography and video.

In fact, the decision to shift came also from my clients' feedback. They lacked the knowledge on how to record good videos and often relied on their cleaners to send videos since they were hosting remotely. Listening to their needs and tracking data was key to elevate my offers.

For some time, I had felt the imposter syndrome sneaking in.

The results were not as expected, but I felt my hands were tied because I couldn’t get the content I wanted—and knew I needed—from my clients. I learned that, before you doubt yourself and the work you do, take a step back and audit your processes. What is holding you back from your greatness, your zone of genius? 99% of the time you will find it is not you, but your process.

I won’t lie, it required some difficult conversations with clients that no longer fit my ideal client avatar and portfolio. But it allowed me to find the space to pursue my true passion, where I can serve them the best.

Tips for Making a Shift in Your Business

If you feel like it’s time to make a shift, I encourage you to take some time and do a deep dive into your business. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Identify a specific need: Look for gaps in your current offerings. What are your clients struggling with? What do they consistently ask for that you don't currently provide?
  2. Develop expertise: Ensure you have the skills and knowledge to deliver the new service effectively. (i.e., taking courses, investing in new equipment, or collaborating with experts in the field)
  3. Test and learn: Start small by offering your new service to a few clients. Gather feedback and adjust.
  4. Communicate the value: Clearly explain to your clients why this new service is valuable and how it can benefit them.
  5. Adjust your pricing: Don't be afraid to charge more for a superior service. Clients are often willing to pay a premium for quality and results.

Regardless of the services you offer, by focusing on solving specific needs you can make a significant shift in your business and achieve remarkable results.

Now let's thrive!
